How to burn tokens, with proof, forever.
Burning tokens means sending them to the dead address (0x…dEaD) where nobody can ever recover them. Projects burn to cut supply, honor commitments, or prove skin in the game. On Robinhood Chain, HoodLock's burn registry does it in one transaction, and mints a public proof-of-burn page you can share anywhere.
Why burn through a registry instead of sending manually?
Anyone can send tokens to the dead address manually, but then the burn is just a loose transaction that's hard to present. HoodLock's verified burn registry records every burn with an id, links it to the burner and token, and generates a proof page showing:
- The exact amount burned and the percentage of total supply it represents
- Who burned it and when (UTC timestamp)
- A one-click link to the burn transaction on Blockscout
The tokens move straight from your wallet to the dead address in a single hop — the registry never holds custody.
Step-by-step: burn tokens
- Open hoodlock.tech/app/locks and connect your wallet.
- Pick the token (dropdown or paste the contract address) and enter the amount.
- Click the red 🔥 FOREVER · BURN chip — the form flips into burn mode.
- Confirm the warning, approve, and sign the burn. Flat fee: 0.005 ETH.
- Open your burn proof page (
hoodlock.tech/app?burn=<id>) and share it.
⚠️ Burning is irreversible. There is no undo, no recovery, no exception. Tokens sent to the dead address are gone forever. That's precisely what makes a burn meaningful.
Burn or lock, which should you choose?
Burn when you want supply gone permanently. Lock when you want tokens provably out of circulation for a period but still recoverable at a known future date (LP, team allocations, reserves). Many projects do both: lock the LP, burn a share of supply. See our comparison: Token locks vs vesting vs burning.
Common questions
Can burned tokens ever be recovered?
No. Tokens sent to the dead address (0x…dEaD) are permanently irrecoverable by anyone, including the burner, the token team and HoodLock.
What does the proof-of-burn page show?
The amount burned, its percentage of total supply, the burner address, the UTC timestamp, and a link to the burn transaction on Blockscout — publicly viewable without a wallet.
Does the burn registry take custody of my tokens?
No. The burn is a single transferFrom directly from your wallet to the dead address in one transaction. The registry only records it.
